FLSA stands for Fair Labor Standards Act, a US law abbreviation also used in business.

Law of 1938 that sets the federal minimum wage, requires overtime pay of one and a half times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek for nonexempt employees and restricts child labor. It is enforced by the Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division.

Example: As an FLSA-exempt manager, she does not receive overtime for weekend work.

Usage notes

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed it on June 25, 1938, setting a 25-cent minimum wage. The federal minimum has been $7.25 an hour since July 24, 2009, the longest stretch without an increase since it was created. Workers classified as exempt, such as many salaried professionals, are not entitled to overtime.
