EUV stands for Extreme ultraviolet, a physics abbreviation.

Very short-wavelength ultraviolet light, roughly 10 to 120 nanometers. In chipmaking, EUV lithography at 13.5 nanometers prints the finest features of today's most advanced processors; astronomers also observe the Sun's hot corona in EUV from space.

Example: The 3-nanometer chips are patterned with EUV lithography machines that each cost well over 100 million dollars.

Usage notes

EUV is absorbed by air and almost all materials, so lithography systems work in vacuum with multilayer mirrors instead of lenses. The light is produced by hitting tiny droplets of molten tin with a powerful carbon dioxide laser. The Dutch company ASML is the only supplier of EUV lithography machines.
