CategoriesUnits & Measurements

DWPD stands for Drive writes per day, a data unit abbreviation.

Enterprise SSD endurance metric giving how many times the drive's full capacity can be written each day over the warranty period. Read-intensive data-center drives are rated around 1 DWPD and write-intensive models at 3 to 10 DWPD.

Example: Choose a 3 DWPD drive for the database log volume.

Usage notes

DWPD and TBW are interchangeable: TBW equals DWPD × capacity in TB × 365 × warranty years. A 3.84 TB drive rated 1 DWPD for five years therefore offers about 7,000 TBW. Storage architects choose the rating based on the expected write workload.
