DJIA stands for Dow Jones Industrial Average, a stock market & investing abbreviation.
Stock market index of 30 large, well-known US companies, such as Apple, JPMorgan Chase and Walmart, maintained by S&P Dow Jones Indices. It is the oldest widely followed US index and is usually just called "the Dow."
Example: The DJIA fell 600 points, or about 1.4 percent, as bond yields climbed.
Usage notes
Charles Dow first published the average in 1896 with 12 companies. Unlike most indices, the DJIA is price-weighted, so a stock with a high share price has more influence than a larger company with a lower price. A divisor, adjusted for stock splits and membership changes, converts the sum of prices into the index level.
