School program in which police officers teach students about avoiding drugs, alcohol, violence and peer pressure, best known for its red logo and "D.A.R.E. to keep kids off drugs" T-shirts.

Usage notes

The Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Unified School District launched it in 1983, and it spread to schools in all 50 states. Research in the 1990s and 2000s found the original curriculum had little lasting effect on drug use, leading it to adopt the "keepin' it REAL" curriculum. It is often written DARE.
