CGPA stands for Cumulative grade point average, an academic abbreviation.
Overall GPA covering every course in a program, as opposed to a single term's GPA. In India and several other countries the abbreviation usually refers to a 10-point scale used by universities and, for some years, by school boards.
Example: Candidates must have a CGPA of 7.5 or higher on a 10-point scale to apply.
Usage notes
In US usage the same idea is usually called "cumulative GPA" and rarely abbreviated. Indian transcripts often need converting for applications abroad; CBSE suggested multiplying its CGPA by 9.5 to estimate a percentage. Universities may specify their own conversion formulas, so applicants should follow each school's instructions.
