CCNE stands for Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, an academic abbreviation.
Accreditor for baccalaureate, graduate and residency programs in nursing, operating as an autonomous arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Many graduate programs and employers require degrees from CCNE- or ACEN-accredited programs.
Example: Applicants must hold a BSN from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited program.
Usage notes
ACEN, the main alternative, also accredits associate degree and practical nursing programs, which CCNE does not. The NLN's CNEA is a third accreditor. Accreditation affects eligibility for some federal funding and graduate admission.
