CASEVAC stands for Casualty evacuation, a military term abbreviation.
Movement of casualties using non-medical vehicles or aircraft, such as transport helicopters or trucks, when dedicated medical evacuation is unavailable or too slow. It trades medical capability for speed.
Example: With no MEDEVAC available, the casualty went out by CASEVAC on a Chinook.
Usage notes
CASEVAC platforms may carry weapons and lack medical crews, so the patient's own unit often provides care en route. The Marine Corps relies more heavily on CASEVAC than the Army because it has no dedicated air ambulance units.
