BODMAS
Stands forBrackets, Orders, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction
CategoriesUnits & Measurements

BODMAS stands for Brackets, Orders, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction, a math abbreviation.

The order-of-operations mnemonic taught in the UK, India, Pakistan, Australia and other Commonwealth countries. Its O refers to orders (powers and roots), though some teachers explain it as "of".

Example: Using BODMAS, 10 − 4 ÷ 2 = 10 − 2 = 8.

Usage notes

Despite listing division before multiplication, BODMAS gives them equal priority, worked left to right, exactly as PEMDAS does; addition and subtraction work the same way. English schools also use BIDMAS, with I for indices. The "of" reading comes from older textbooks in which "of" meant multiplication, as in "half of 10".
