BDQ stands for Bedaquiline, a drug abbreviation.

Diarylquinoline antibiotic that blocks mycobacterial ATP synthase, used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Brand name Sirturo; it is a core drug in modern all-oral regimens for drug-resistant TB.

Example: MDR-TB: BDQ 400 mg daily x 2 weeks, then 200 mg three times weekly.

Usage notes

Its 2012 accelerated FDA approval made it the first new TB drug with a novel mechanism in about four decades. A boxed warning noted QT prolongation and an unexplained excess of deaths in an early trial, but later evidence showed regimens containing bedaquiline improve survival. It has an extremely long terminal half-life.
