ARCOS stands for Automation of Reports and Consolidated Orders System, a pharmacy abbreviation.
DEA database in which manufacturers and distributors report transactions of selected controlled substances, such as opioids, from production to the point of sale to pharmacies and hospitals.
Example: ARCOS data showed one pharmacy received millions of hydrocodone pills in six years.
Usage notes
ARCOS data were long confidential, but a 2019 court ruling released records used by The Washington Post to report that about 76 billion oxycodone and hydrocodone pills were shipped in the US from 2006 to 2012. The data became central evidence in opioid litigation.
