AMV stands for Anime music video, a fandom and fan fiction abbreviation.

Fan-edited video that sets clips from one or more anime to a song, often with effects and careful syncing. Popular on YouTube, TikTok and at anime conventions, which hold AMV contests.

Usage notes

AMV editing dates to the early 1980s, when fans used VCRs. The 2000s saw a boom on YouTube. Copyright claims have removed many AMVs. TikTok "edits" are a modern descendant.
