ALSP stands for Alternative legal service provider, a legal profession abbreviation.
Organization other than a traditional law firm that delivers legal services or support, such as e-discovery vendors, contract-management companies, accounting firms' legal teams and legal staffing agencies. Corporate legal departments increasingly use ALSPs for routine, high-volume work.
Example: The general counsel moved all NDA review to an ALSP with fixed per-document pricing.
Usage notes
In most US states ALSPs may not give legal advice to the public unless lawyers are involved, but reforms in Arizona and Utah allow some nonlawyer ownership. The Big Four accounting firms offer legal services in many countries outside the United States.
