A/S stands for Aktieselskab (stock company, Denmark), a company type abbreviation.
Danish stock company form, used by large and listed companies and by many private ones, with shareholders' liability limited to their shares. Minimum share capital is DKK 400,000.
Example: Novo Nordisk A/S and A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S are among Denmark's largest companies.
Usage notes
The private equivalent is the ApS. Danish companies register with the Danish Business Authority. The slash is part of the standard form; Norway uses AS without a slash for its own, different company type.
