VHA stands for Veterans Health Administration, a US federal agency abbreviation also used in the military.
Largest integrated health care system in the United States, run by the Department of Veterans Affairs and serving more than 9 million enrolled veterans at about 170 medical centers and over 1,000 outpatient sites. It is headed by the Under Secretary for Health.
Example: Her VHA primary care team arranged a follow-up with a community provider closer to home.
Usage notes
VistA, the electronic health record the VA built in-house beginning in the 1980s, was one of the earliest large-scale medical record systems; the department has been replacing it with a commercial Oracle Health system. Eligibility for VHA care depends on factors such as discharge status, service-connected disability and income.
