VCI stands for Verbal Comprehension Index, a psychology abbreviation.
Wechsler index score measuring verbal reasoning, vocabulary knowledge and the ability to explain concepts, based on subtests such as Vocabulary, Similarities and Information. It reflects acquired knowledge and verbal concept formation.
Example: A high VCI with weaker working memory is a common profile in some learning disorders.
Usage notes
The VCI is often considered the best Wechsler measure of crystallized intelligence, the accumulated knowledge influenced by education and culture. Other indexes include working memory, processing speed and visual-spatial or perceptual reasoning measures. Scores follow the usual mean of 100 and standard deviation of 15.
