UFW stands for United Farm Workers, a professional association and labor union abbreviation.
Labor union of agricultural workers founded by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, known for the Delano grape strike and national consumer boycotts that won the first union contracts for farmworkers.
Example: The UFW pressed lawmakers for heat protections for workers in the fields.
Usage notes
It began in 1962 as the National Farm Workers Association and joined Filipino American workers in the 1965 Delano grape strike. Its slogan "Si se puede" was later adopted by other movements. California's 1975 Agricultural Labor Relations Act grew out of its campaigns, since federal labor law excludes farmworkers.
