TAMU stands for Texas A&M University, a university abbreviation.
Opened in 1876 in College Station as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, Texas A&M is now one of the largest universities in the US by enrollment. It is known for its Corps of Cadets, engineering and veterinary programs and Aggie traditions.
Example: TAMU engineering admits thousands of first-year students each fall.
Usage notes
The letters "A&M" no longer officially stand for anything. Traditions include the "12th Man" student section, Midnight Yell and the Aggie Ring. Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012. Graduates are called "former students" rather than alumni.
