US Army helicopter regiment, formally the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), known as the Night Stalkers, that flies special operations forces on night missions in modified MH-60 Black Hawks, MH-47 Chinooks and MH-6 Little Birds.
Example: The 160th SOAR flew the assault force into the compound in modified Black Hawks.
The unit grew out of Task Force 160, formed in 1981 after the failed 1980 Iran hostage rescue exposed the need for specialized helicopter crews. It is based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and its motto is "Night Stalkers Don't Quit."
