psig stands for Pounds per square inch gauge, an engineering unit abbreviation.
Pressure measured relative to the surrounding atmosphere, which is what ordinary gauges display: a flat tire reads 0 psig even though the air inside is at atmospheric pressure. Compressed air, gas piping and boiler pressures are specified in psig.
Example: Maintain shop air at 90 psig at the tool inlet.
Usage notes
When a spec simply says psi, it usually means gauge pressure. At high altitude the same absolute pressure gives a higher gauge reading because the outside air is thinner, which is why tires read higher after driving up a mountain.
