OR-2 stands for NATO other ranks grade 2, a military pay grade abbreviation.
Second step on the NATO enlisted scale, equal to US pay grade E-2: an Army Private (PV2), Navy Seaman Apprentice, Air Force Airman and Marine Corps Private First Class. British Army privates and their regimental equivalents, such as gunners and sappers, are also placed here.
Example: A British Army private and a US Navy seaman apprentice share the NATO code OR-2.
Usage notes
The OR scale runs from OR-1 to OR-9 and is maintained by NATO's standardization office. Not every country uses every code, and some ranks span two codes. The table is a guide to relative seniority, not a statement of identical pay or authority.
