OPD stands for Outpatient department, a hospital abbreviation.
Hospital department providing diagnosis and treatment without admission, including specialist clinics, procedures and follow-up visits. The term is especially common in India, the UK and many Asian countries.
Example: Review in surgical OPD after 2 weeks with biopsy report.
Usage notes
In India "OPD" is widely used for the clinic itself, and hospital cards are called OPD slips. In US billing, hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) have separate payment rules from physician offices. Outpatient visits do not count toward inpatient length of stay.
