NUTS stands for Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, a region abbreviation.

European Union system dividing member states into three levels of regions (NUTS 1, 2 and 3) for statistics and for allocating regional development funds. The name comes from the French Nomenclature des unités territoriales statistiques.

Example: Eurostat publishes GDP per capita for every NUTS 2 region.

Usage notes

NUTS 2 regions with GDP per person below 75 percent of the EU average qualify for the most cohesion funding. Codes start with the country code, as in DE3 for Berlin.
