NLRB stands for National Labor Relations Board, a US federal agency abbreviation.
Referees private-sector labor relations: the independent agency runs secret-ballot union elections and decides unfair labor practice charges against employers and unions under the National Labor Relations Act. It has a five-member board and a separate General Counsel who prosecutes cases.
Example: Workers at the warehouse filed a petition with the NLRB for a union election.
Usage notes
The Wagner Act of 1935 established the board. Government employees, farmworkers and supervisors are not covered by the law it enforces. The board needs three members for a quorum, which has periodically left it unable to decide cases, and the President's 2025 removal of a member led to litigation over its independence.
