CategoriesBusiness & Finance

MOQ stands for Minimum order quantity, an e-commerce & retail abbreviation.

Smallest number of units a supplier or manufacturer will accept in a single order, set to cover setup, materials and handling costs. MOQs are standard in wholesale, manufacturing and sourcing from marketplaces such as Alibaba.

Example: The factory's MOQ is 500 units per color, so we launched with only two colors.

Usage notes

MOQs are often negotiable, especially by paying a higher unit price or committing to repeat orders. Small brands sometimes meet them by sharing production runs or using print-on-demand. Not to be confused with an order minimum in dollars, called a minimum order value.
