LCAC stands for Landing Craft, Air Cushion, a naval ship abbreviation.
Hovercraft used by the US Navy to carry Marines, vehicles and cargo from amphibious ships to shore at high speed, riding over water, beaches and marshes on a cushion of air.
Example: An LCAC roared up the beach carrying an Abrams tank.
Usage notes
Pronounced "EL-cack." LCACs can reach most of the world's coastlines, far more than conventional landing craft. They operate from the well decks of LHDs, LPDs and LSDs, and a newer Ship-to-Shore Connector is replacing the original fleet.
