IIM stands for Indian Institute of Management, a university abbreviation.
Group of 21 public business schools in India, the first two established at Calcutta and Ahmedabad in 1961. Their flagship two-year MBA-equivalent programs admit students through the Common Admission Test (CAT).
Example: She received offers from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore and chose Ahmedabad.
Usage notes
IIMs were granted authority to award MBA degrees under the Indian Institutes of Management Act of 2017; earlier they awarded postgraduate diplomas. IIM Ahmedabad was set up with help from Harvard Business School and IIM Calcutta with MIT Sloan. Placement salaries are widely reported in Indian media.
