HV stands for High voltage, an electronics & electrical abbreviation.
Electrical voltage high enough to require special safety measures and insulation; under common IEC definitions, above about 1,000 volts AC or 1,500 volts DC. In electric vehicles, "HV battery" refers to the traction pack of roughly 400 to 800 volts, marked by orange cables.
Example: Never cut the orange HV cables on a damaged EV until the system has been disabled.
Usage notes
Definitions vary by industry and country: utilities may reserve "high voltage" for transmission lines above about 35 kilovolts, and workplace rules set their own thresholds. LV (low voltage) refers to lower levels such as 12 volts in cars or ordinary building supply. Only trained workers may work on HV systems.
