FPCON stands for Force protection condition, a military term abbreviation.
US military system for setting security measures against terrorist threats at installations, with levels Normal, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta, each adding protective measures such as more inspections and restricted access.
Example: The base raised the FPCON to Charlie, so expect long lines at the gate.
Usage notes
FPCON replaced the older THREATCON system in 2001. Commanders can set higher levels locally based on intelligence. FPCON Delta, the highest, applies when an attack has occurred or is imminent in the immediate area.
