Fluoro stands for Fluoroscopy, a medical imaging abbreviation.

Real-time X-ray imaging displayed as moving video, used to guide procedures and to watch structures in motion. Examples include barium swallows, joint injections, catheter and stent placement, fracture reduction in the operating room and swallow studies.

Example: Fluoro time 4.2 minutes; total dose recorded in the procedure note.

Usage notes

Because exposure accumulates with time, fluoroscopy time and dose are documented, and very long interventional cases can cause radiation skin injury. Pulsed fluoroscopy and last-image hold reduce dose. Surgeons call the mobile C-shaped unit a "C-arm". Thomas Edison developed an early fluoroscope in 1896.
