DISM stands for Deployment Image Servicing and Management, a computer abbreviation.
Windows command-line tool that repairs, mounts and modifies Windows images, including the running system. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth downloads clean components when system files are damaged.
Example: SFC couldn't fix everything, so I ran DISM with RestoreHealth and then SFC again.
Usage notes
DISM arrived with Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2, replacing several older deployment tools. Administrators use it to add drivers, updates and language packs to WIM image files before deploying them across many PCs. The /Online switch targets the currently running installation, while other switches work on offline images mounted to a folder.
