CPTPP stands for Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, an international organization abbreviation.

Free trade agreement among Pacific Rim countries, including Japan, Canada, Australia, Mexico and Vietnam, that cuts tariffs and sets rules on services, investment and digital trade. The United Kingdom became its 12th member in December 2024.

Example: British exporters gained lower tariffs in Malaysia after the UK joined the CPTPP.

Usage notes

It is the successor to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which the United States left in January 2017; the other 11 signatories revised and signed it in 2018, and it took effect at the end of that year. China and Taiwan both applied to join in 2021. The UK was its first member outside the original group.
