1. Conservative and Unionist Party
Government & Politics · UK Government Abbreviations
Major UK centre-right party, often called the Tories, which governed from 2010 to 2024 and is the largest opposition party after losing the 2024 election. "Con" appears in election results and after MPs' names.
Example: The seat changed hands from Con to Lab on a large swing.
The party traces its origins to the 1830s and Robert Peel's Tamworth Manifesto; "Tory" was originally an insult from the 17th century. It led the 2016 Brexit referendum and the UK's departure from the EU. Its 2024 result of 121 seats was the worst in its modern history.
2. Constitution (CON)
Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations
Ability score measuring health, stamina and toughness in Dungeons & Dragons, adding to hit points and saving throws against poison and exhaustion.
Example: Bumped my CON so the cleric stops dropping in every fight.
Constitution is rarely a "dump stat" because every class benefits from more hit points. Spellcasters use it for concentration saves in fifth edition. Outside games, "con" means a fan convention or a swindle.
