2DAY stands for Today, a texting and chat abbreviation.
Number-for-sound spelling in which the digit 2 replaces "to," saving keystrokes in the SMS era, when a text was capped at 160 characters and typed on a numeric keypad. Seen now mostly in older texts, promotional messages and deliberately retro or playful posts.
Example: Can't make practice 2day, my mom needs the car until six.
Usage notes
Spellings like 2day, 2moro and gr8 peaked in the late 1990s and 2000s, when every letter could cost several key presses. Full touchscreen keyboards and autocorrect made them largely unnecessary, so younger users find them old-fashioned. Avoid them in schoolwork, emails and any professional message.
